The Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale (APM) was founded
in 1986, and its aim was to provide specific professional training
for young people striving to embark on an artistic profession within
the constantly changing work scenario.
On 22nd January 1987 the school opened its doors to the first course
of Alto Perfezionamento Musicale for Orchestra, and welcomed 85 musicians
from all over Italy. In May of the same year these very same musicians
went on to delight the inhabitants of Saluzzo with the first performances
of the many concerts that had been practiced in the School.
In 1988 the school not only offered Classical courses, but also the
new Technologies studies aimed at the production of music; initially
with a course for sound technicians, and then with a course for composers
and arrangers. The fact that music was both played and produced within
the same establishment brought a creative touch to all the school’s
activities and opened up new possibilities in terms of teaching both
classical and technological courses.
These two aspects of music in fact have always distinguished the
Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale and have given it an aura
of originality that its students recognise instantaneously.
Today the Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale has become a
training agency that is active in the area of post-diploma training
for young musicians.
The terms ‘school’ and ‘training agency’ obviously
denote the APM’s double role:
- as Scuola di Alto Perfezionamento Musicale it belongs to the
musical, technological and classical world and consequently promotes
identity, cultural models and professional growth.
- as a training agency, on the other hand, it has contact with
the outside world and has to compete with the already existing
professional outlets.
The current challenge therefore lies in knowing how to balance
these two aspects and keep them in touch with each other. The awareness
of what opportunities exist in the professional world and the need
to realistically predict future employment are sharpened by the
passion for the subject matter and an attentiveness to artistic
beauty and its achievement. |
